Founded by producer Jeremy Lewis in the early 1970s, Amazon Studios was established in Kirkby, Liverpool, as a response to the city's lack of professional recording facilities.
Lewis, who had previously acquired the assets of Liverpool Sound Enterprises, transformed Amazon Studios into a hub for emerging talent. Under his guidance, the studio produced albums for notable artists such as Echo & The Bunnymen, The Smiths, and China Crisis. During this period, Amazon Studios achieved significant success, earning multiple platinum and gold records, as well as three Ampex Gold Reel Awards.

In 1992, Jeremy Lewis relocated Amazon to a larger facility in a more central location - Liverpool's Parr Street. The new complex featured two large-format tracking rooms and boasted both SSL G-series and Neve VR60 Legend consoles.
In 1994, Hit-and-Run Publishing, owned by the band Genesis, took over operating the studios and Parr Street quickly attracted a diverse range of artists. Notable recordings include Coldplay's early albums Parachutes and A Rush of Blood to the Head, as well as works by Elbow, Doves, The Stereophonics and Rhianna.
Hit-and-Run decided to sell the building in 2007, amid much outcry by the cities musical scene who were aware that Liverpool had just been awarded the status of European Capital of Culture for 2008. A consortium was formed to save the jewel in the cities musical crown, and for a while the studio was operated by Porcupine Music Management.
In 2010 the current management team of Chris Taylor and Rich Turvey took over the studios and ushered in a new era of success. The final piece of their puzzle was a relationship with Liverpool legends The Coral - and together with frontman James Skelly they landed their first number one success with new indie artists ‘Blossoms.’ This thrust the studio back into the spotlight and attracted household names like Drake, Tyga and Justin Bieber to record in the facility.
The studio's reputation for fostering creativity and producing high-quality music had solidified its status in the industry, and in 2022 the studio was awarded ‘Studio of the Year’ by the Music Producers Guild.

In 2022, Parr Street announced the relocation of their operations to Kempston Street in Liverpool's Fabric District. The new facility occupies two former warehouses and includes a large main studio, a smaller B studio, a Dolby Atmos mix room, and four additional production suites. Designed by The Studio People, the complex also features a communal coffee shop and reception area, fostering collaboration and creativity among artists.
Despite the change in location, the ethos and client-base of the studio remains unchanged. Blossoms have recently returned to record with the team, and garnered yet another number one album with their latest record - Gary.
